Published load data
Muzzle velocities are the manufacturer’s published figures, measured in their test barrel. Your rifle will differ — a shorter barrel typically loses roughly 5–15 m/s per centimetre. Chronograph your own load before trusting a long-range solution.
What it is
Berlin gunmaker Otto Bock designed the 9.3×62 in 1905 to fit a standard Mauser 98 action. It became Europe’s and Africa’s most common “big” hunting cartridge: heavy bullet, moderate velocity, deep penetration and a trajectory entirely adequate for forest distances.
Use in Finland
In Finland the 9.3×62 is a moose and bear calibre. Every load listed weighs 15 grams or more and carries over 3400 J at 100 m — roughly double the top-class requirement. The trade-off is trajectory: blunt bullets and ~700 m/s muzzle velocities mean markedly faster drop than the .30 calibres. Run the loads in the calculator and see the difference yourself.
